A little over a week ago, I left Tennessee and headed to Georgia for a few last days of training. Our squad was all in one large room, but we were separated by our teams. There was tape placed on the floor marking "rooms" and "hallways." We ate, slept, and hung out in our square. While it was weird not being able to hang out with everyone closely on our squad those few days, our team was able to grow closer through chats around the table and lots of games of cards!
On Tuesday the 12th, we cleaned up are space and headed to the airport. We had a six hour layover in Florida, so many of us spent the time grabbing food, walking around and making calls home one more time. Our flight landed in Costa Rica around 1 am. After getting our bags, going through customs, and a late night bus ride, we made it to Jaco! By the time we settled in and showered, it was 5:30 am. Thankfully we got to sleep in!
So far, most of our time has been spent at our ministry base for "quarantine." We have learned the ministry history and ways we may be helping in the weeks to come. Every morning Tuesday-Saturday we start the day with quiet time, breakfast, stretching, and devotions before going into ministry. For our work days, we have broken into teams to work on cleaning out storage sheds/closets, gardening, painting and cleaning the park next door.
(Also, we are extremely blessed by this ministry host! It may be hot, but we have fans, a kitchen, bunk beds and working showers and toilets!)
We will begin working in different ministry placements this week, and we are all very excited to see where we are placed/what the Lord has in store!
